No Quilting Going On Here

I haven’t been able to sew or quilt in over 2 weeks now. Last weekend, one of my sisters and I attended a ceremony for my brother where he was given an Outstanding Alumni Award from the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine. We are very proud of Jim’s accomplishments throughout his life and it was especially rewarding to see his peers acknowledge them. There are 5 kids in my family, me being the youngest. During this trip, I decided that the brains were given out in the order of birth with me being left with the left-overs of which there were very few. I’m so in awe of my siblings and their accomplishments but sure wish the brains hadn’t run out before I came along.

My next adventure was to do our taxes. I worked on them all week and still couldn’t get our amount due to a point that was comfortable. It seemed as we were going through the year, the income was not as great as last year but the taxes due say something different. I haven’t informed my DH and am not looking forward to this discussion. We either need to buy more equipment (for the trucking company) or my idea is to add on to the house and enlarge my quilting and sewing area. I’m sure my ideas will not be the same as my husbands. He continually tells me he tried to get me to build a bigger room to start with and I’m just going to have to deal with it. But, my walking area gets smaller and smaller and eventually, I’m going to be climbing over things instead of walking through them. I guess I should be thankful that we have the money to pay the taxes. There have been years that this was not so.

We also had more flooding this week. I think it was worse this time than the 3 times before. Our house sits far enough away from the creek that it is never in jeopardy but we are flooded in. We have a crossing we have to ford and when the water gets up, this is not something you want to try to ford. One Christmas we came in when the water was up and the water came over the hood of the car and we were stalled in the middle of the crossing. This is not something I want to experience ever again.

I’m putting some pictures up to show the flooding creek. One day during the winter, I posted some pictures of the same spot which will give you some idea of the amount of water rushing down the creek.

This is looking up the creek.

You can see the fence which is probably 10′ from the normal edge of the creek.

This is the pond dam. There is a drop of probably 12′ to the normal edge of the creek.

This is the crossing. It does’t look too bad but the water is really moving fast and is probably over running board deep on my Tahoe.

Well, that’s it for today. I hope to get some quilting done this coming week and will post if I have anything to show.

Happy quilting!

Judy, have you ever considered leaving a boat up by the house… just in case… just a simple inexpensive something??? Hope you are still dry and you get to the quilting!!
